THE POWER

OF ART AS

ACTIVISM

The history of the CAP Art Auction & After Party is a rich and complex legacy of community building, HIV advocacy, and the power of art to mobilize support for a cause. Every year, we strive to select a theme that highlights a particular art form, movement, or period as a way to invite a deeper conversation with our history and how that shapes our community and our future.

Our theme for 2024 is inspired by the history of Protest Art and HIV Art Activism and draws on the traditional formats and mediums closely associated with activist art. In creating alignment with our “Ruby Anniversary”, the color red becomes a major design element and driver in expressing the theme and its relationship to both HIV & Activism.

The end result coalesces into a visual celebration of the power of art as a means of social change, a retrospective of our agency as we reflect on our 40 years or our work, and a call to action to join us in continuing the important grassroots advocacy that has allowed us to make such substantial progress in the fight against HIV transmission.

HONORING

40 YEARS OF CAP

Founded in 1983 and incorporated in 1985 as the Cascade AIDS Project, CAP is the oldest and largest community-based provider of HIV services, housing, education, advocacy, and inclusive LGBTQ+ health and wellness services in Oregon and Southwest Washington. In the 40 years we have been in our community, we have made incredible strides in testing, treatment, and prevention of HIV, and we have translated that depth and breadth of experience into further advancing inclusive and affirming healthcare service for the LGBTQ+ community and all those seeking compassionate care.

As we look back on the past 4 decades and celebrate our “Ruby Anniversary”, we invite you to join us to honor these 40 years of CAP and help shape the next 40 ahead!
